This is my mother in law’s recipe and i became a fan of Aval Uppuma . The taste , easy method and healthy diet attracted me to this. .
Aval – 4 cups
Red Chilly powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Hing – 1 tsp
Tamarind juice – 1 cup
Curry leaves – a sprig
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Coconut – 1 tblsp
Lemon juice – 2 tsp
Salt and oil
Put the aval in a vessel of water and quickly remove it and put it in a Strainer . Add the chilly powder , salt, Turmeric powder , hing and mix well.
Take a thick extract of tamarind juice and mix with Aval. Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard, Urad dal.
Then add curry leaves and Onion and saute well .
Add aval and mix well . It gets cooked in few minutes .
Taste for salt and spiciness . If not enough add salt and chilly powder . Finally add coconut . If sourness is not enough add lemon juice on top of aval uppuma and mix well. We can call this as an instant food as it takes few minutes to get cooked .
