Paruppu podi (பருப்பு பொடி).


It is almost a tradition to carry all the Podi varieties when going abroad or to a distant place . For a woman Podis are of great help when she falls sick or not able to cook . When we were young our dinner was rice and Podi on some days . The Fragrant Podi on the hot rice with ghee or oil was  relished by us. But after the Good diet awareness and all newbie diseases came the rice eating habit for dinner has vanished. Today if i give rice for dinner my children do not like. Yet for lunch we can introduce our Podi varieties to our children to give them the nutrition and wide variety of taste .


Tuvar Dal -1 cup

Roasted  Gram Dal – ½ cup

Black pepper – 1 tsp

Jeera -1 tsp

Red chilli – 3 or 4

Hing – 1 tsp

Salt and oil.


Method: Fry all the ingredients in little oil. When the ingredients turn brown switch off the flame and transfer the ingredients to another vessel.


When cool grind it to a smooth powder with salt. Mix it well in a vessel and transfer it to air tight container . Enjoy with rice and gingelly oil.
