Punjabi Channa.


This recipe was demonstrated by Mrs. Revathi Shanmugam in a television show and is a easy way to cook Channa masala Gravy . This goes well with Chappati and any Pulao rice.


White Kabuli Channa -1 cup
Tomatoes -6
Onion -2
Red Chilly Powder – 1 tsp
Jeera Powder – 2 tsp
Dhaniya Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder -1/s tsp
Channa masala or Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
Coriander leaves – 1 cup
Salt and oil


Wash Channa. Add boiling water to it and cover . After 15 minutes drain the water and rinse the Channa again . Add cold water to it and soak for 8 hours . Adding Boiling water removes a harmful gas present in it .

After 8 hours the actual preparation can be started .

Cut onion and tomatoes. Liquidise the Tomatoes in a blender.

In a pressure cooker add oil . Fry the onions till brown and then add the Tomato puree .

Add all masala powder and mix well.


Cover the cooker and cook for 3 whistles.

Open it and add the soaked Channa and again cook for 7 whistles .
When the steam settles open the cooker add salt and boil for few minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves .
