We all evolve ,grow everyday . The most surprise growth for me is Baking in my life as before i started this blog i have never dreamt of baking and now if i am given a choice to tick i will surely tick Baking as my first option. But the cream, sweet in baking alarms me and so i want to prepare something which is good for family and budget . The immediate choice is Bread . Naturally Bread occupies a major part in our menu and so baking bread is useful and i too can indulge in baking often . A variety of recipes are in various blogs , But to get the real inspiration and not copy i selected few books and referred certain blogs and combined my ideas to bake a bread. As white flour again alarms me i had purchased wholemeal flour and so the guilt of eating white flour has now gone .Now to the recipe.
1 .Whole meal flour -2 cups
2. All purpose Flour -1 cup
3. Yeast – ½ tbls
4. Sugar -1 tsp
5.Salt -1 tsp
6.Baking powder – 1 /2 tsp
7.Baking soda -1/2 tsp
8.Oregano flakes -2 tsp
9. Mixed spice powder -1 /2 tsp
10. Milk -1/2 cup
11. Extra virgin Olive Oil – 2 tsp.
Mix all dry items .
Make a well in the middle and add warm milk, followed by yeast and sugar.
Let them, dissolve and then add milk and knead well.
Apply olive oil and finally give a good coat .
The dough should be pliable .
Cover it with a plastic wrap and leave aside for 1 hour .
Then knock it down and bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 1 hour .
We can apply milk or olive oil on top of the dough before baking to get that glazed effect.
After 1 hour insert a clean toothpick in the middle for 30 seconds and check if it comes clean dry .
Cut into slices after cooling for twenty minutes.
You will get a nice aroma even while baking .
i prefer eating this plain with Tea or mildly toasted with olive oil rather than applying jam as we may lose the subtle flavour .A slightly coarse texture Bread is ready.
i found the dough not rising well so we can increase the yeast quantity .Oven temperatures may vary.
