Ven Pongal.

Ven Pongal– the name itself makes us drool  and if we  prepare correctly it is sure to melt in our mouth. My mother makes tasty Pongal. i remember eating Ven pongal in small hotels for breakfast in Thanjavur district and  the taste still is unforgettable. Singapore Komala Vilas too gives us tasty Pongal.  Almost all vegetarian hotels give us tasty Pongal and combo of Ven Pongal and vadai is more than enough for any  connoisseur of food.

Ingredients:

Raw Rice -1 cup

Moong Dal -1/4 cup

Water – 4.5 cup

Pepper – 6

Cumin Powder -1 /2 tsp

Curry leaves – few

Hing Powder – ½ tsp

Grated Ginger – 1 tsp

Cashew -5

Salt.

 Method:

We can either roast Moong dal or simply cook it without roasting. i did not roast today . Wash Moong dal and rice . Add water  as given and cook in the pressure cooker for 4 to 5 whistles. When the steam settles open the cooker and add salt and mix well. In a small kadai add oil/ghee and then add pepper , Cumin seed, hing, curry leaves and grated Ginger pieces We can even add  cashew nuts roasted in ghee. Garnish all these on Pongal and serve hot with Chutney.
