Pudina Pulav /Mint Pulav.

A Lazy afternoon , as children are at home for their holidays , the usual busy mornings are skipped and i have the privilege of cooking in the afternoon . As it is for children i can make a simple meal and yet i am strict about nutrition and less spicy . Also i make it a point that my husband will not miss the lunch i make and serve it for dinner . So considering all these i decided to make Pudina Pulav and with small potatoes in hand i thought it will make a good combination. Now for the recipe . The dish is plain and we need some spicy accompaniment .


Ingredients :

Basmati rice – 1 cup
Pudina /Mint leaves– 1 cup
Green chilli -4
Onion -1
Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
Cinnamon 1 inch
Cloves/star anise/ cardamom – 2 each
Oil and salt


Wash and soak the rice in water for half an hour.

Meanwhile remove the pudina /mint leaves from the stalk and cut the onions lengthwise. Wash the pudina/ mint leaves and slit green chilli.


In a heavy bottom vessel add oil . When it becomes hot add the spices and sauté well.


Then add onion and fry well. When it becomes translucent add the ginger garlic paste and sauté well .

Then add pudina/mint leaves and sauté well .Add one and a half cup of water , required salt to this and allow it to boil.


When the water starts boiling add the rice and mix well.


Simmer the flame. Cover the vessel and in 10 minutes the pulav will be ready .


Open the lid to see if the rice is cooked .

To get the fresh mint flavour it is necessary to control the cooking time .
